{Book Review} Crimson & Cream by C.M. Skiera

Book Title: Crimson & Cream, Book One in The Oxbow Kingdom Trilogy
Author: CM Skiera
Publisher: Independent
Publishing Date: August 2012
Length: 247 pages
Source: Author in exchange for an honest review

Hounded by watchmen, trolls, goblins, and a relentless bounty hunter, 13-year-old Jetsam dreams of the day he’ll no longer have to run for his life.

In the mountain city of Dwim-Halloe, Eadriel and Elvar were born twins to teachers at the city’s revered School of Magic. When the new king outlawed magic, the boys’ parents were murdered. Their deaths forfeited the twins' magical birthright and made them homeless fugitives.

Rescued by an orphan gang, the fleeing twins were nicknamed Flotsam and Jetsam. To survive as outcasts, the orphans scavenge and pilfer nightly. Their last risky foray sent them fleeing into an unfamiliar cavern. Now the boys are lost deep underground where they encounter a strange beast that will change their lives forever and begin a harrowing journey for their ultimate survival.

Crimson & Cream recounts Jetsam’s adventurous tale of flight and discovery as the fugitive orphan unravels his tortured past while securing his tenuous future.

GOODREADS | AMAZON

Full disclosure: I received a copy of this book during a book tour in exchange for an honest review.

When I first read the description of this book, I was eager to read it. I grew up on Tolkien: Dad spoonfed it to me beginning with The Hobbit until he deemed me ready for my own set of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings when I was 12. And so, thanks to my dad, I adore fantasy novels. And when they're told well? *squeaks in joy* Heck, yes!

CM Skiera's CRIMSON & CREAM is one of those fantasy novels. Flotsam & Jetsam are twin brothers, orphans, and part of an orphan gang that lives in the sewers of the city. The king outlawed sorcery when they were toddlers, their parents were murdered, and they escaped by jumping into the river. It has been eight years and they are celebrating their 13th birthday by attempting to sneak into the castle.

It does not end well and is the beginning of Jetsam's story as he embarks on a quest in search of a wizard. On his way, he is chased by guards, hunted by a bountyhunter, encounters a mad knight and his band of not-so-noble men, a wood nymph, trolls, etc. This story is filled with history, peppered with magic, and one roaring adventure!

I absolutely loved every minute I spent in this world. Your heart breaks for Jetsam, his band of orphans will make your heart ache with pity and feelings. Without ever having met him, you already despise the king. You are just as eager to find the wizard. And, I don't know about you, but I was so pleased with Jetsam's little companion, Tramp. Good boy, Tramp!

I would absolutely, whole heartedly recommend this to fantasy readers, ages 10 and up (depending on reading level). Clean, the pacing is great, characters are well developed, and nothing to interrupt Reader Zone (no gross grammatical errors, etc). I cannot wait for more in the trilogy and I have a feeling this will definitely hit my favorites shelf!

{Book Review with Giveaway} DRAGON CRAVING by Livia Olteano

Dragon Craving (Otherworld Summons #2)
by Livia Olteano
Length: 230 pages
Edition: ebook
Self-published
Part of a series; can be read as stand-alone

The world holds few secrets for Oracle Elana Anderson, or as her fans know her, Ela Deville. Successful author of paranormal romance, Ela has a secret: not all her paranormal characters are quite that fictional. She hardly expected she'd trigger a chain of events that might bring about the end of the world via a pesky dragon. Rendered blind to visions of him, Ela’s only way to save her world is to keep the dragon close…very close.

Obitus, the only awake dragon in the Otherworlds, is determined to get back the magic that was stolen from him and secure his position for a good thousand years. Becoming Akai’s new guardian after getting rid of the current one is the best way to it. But that means getting Ela on his side. He’ll bargain and maneuver his way there if he has to, but ends up tormented by the desire to have her for real.

In a game of deals, half-truths and irresistible cravings, does one heart have to break in order for the other to save the world?

I had read the first book in this series, GARGOYLE ADDICTION, earlier this year. (See my review here). I really enjoyed it and enjoyed the cast of characters as well. I was excited to be offered a chance to read DRAGON CRAVING from the author directly and I enjoyed this book just as much, if not more, than the first!

The Otherworld Summons series is great in that you can read each book as a stand-alone. While the characters cross over into this second book, I could envision someone reading it and enjoying it just fine without having read Karla & Kann's story.

This book focuses on Obitus, the dragon Karla summoned and released from his prison in order to save her own life. Back in our human realm, Obitus and Karla have a friendship going on that Kann and Ela, Karla's favorite author who happens to be the Oracle of Akai (human realm), just cannot seem to understand. In fact, Ela is constantly fighting her own attraction to him, believing him to be the worst sort imaginable. Obitus...the Destroyer of Worlds. He must've been imprisoned for SOME reason, right?

Obitus meanwhile is searching for magic, his magic, so he can wreak revenge on Naum, the person he trusted who betrayed him and imprisoned him. We learn a lot from Obitus about what really happened, about what the guardians TRULY are, etc. A lot of information without being lectured; it all unfolds in the course of the story.

The sexual tension and pulling of heartstrings between Obitus and Ela is wonderfully written as is the pace of this novel. Once I was able to get a little time to myself to read, this was a fast, enjoyable nugget of a book that made me smile as the ebb and flow of relationship woes and highs pulsed.

I cannot wait for another book in this series; something tells me we're going back to gargoyles. Maybe? Hopefully? ;)

The author is graciously giving away one ebook set of both novels, mobi/epub only. Good luck!

{ARC Review} CHARRED HEART by Lizzy Ford ***AVAILABLE NOW****

Charred Heart
Lizzy Ford

For a thousand years, Chace has searched for a way to break the curse placed on him by a jilted lover. He’s a dragon shifter, one who can’t control when the magic will force him into a different form. He’s already lost everyone he ever cared about a few times over and doesn’t know how much longer he’s meant to suffer.

At his wit’s end, he makes a deal with a mysterious figure that offers him what he wants most – an end to his misery – in exchange for everything that’s his: His life, his power. His heart.

The next day, he meets Skylar, a modern day dragon slayer whose mission is to cage him – or kill him. Sexy, witty and brave, she is the yin to his yang, the woman destined to break the curse, balance his magic and make his broken heart whole.

Except it’s too late. Not only has he sealed his fate, but an innocent one-night-stand with Skylar has dragged her into the middle of a deal with the devil, one she won’t escape, if he can’t convince her that dragon shifters aren’t her enemies

*fans face* Whoa, baby. This is Lizzy Ford's steamiest novel yet and very apropos given it's a paranormal romance about a dragon shifter. *licks lips* Say it with me...dragon hotness! And in true Lizzy fashion...this ends with a cliffhanger, but I hear that CHARRED TEARS isn't far behind, --thankfully--.
Chace is a thousand years old and tired of watching his loved ones die around him - humans and shifters alike, no one quite has the lifespan of a dragon. Ready to call it a day, he strikes a deal with Mr Nothing to become human. Shortly thereafter, Skylar crashes onto the scene, convinced she's a dragon slayer, and she's ready to slay Chace.

Passion and instant chemistry, these two rip one another's clothes off and sexy time commences. When things don't add up, Chace decides to take his end of the deal further and tells Sky to take him into the rehab center so he discover where the heck all the shifters are disappearing to. He insists to Sky that she's been brainwashed, but Sky is having difficulty believing her entire life could be a lie...

Tons of action, twisty motives from evil parties, a shocking ex-boyfriend, and a long lost father crash into the scene and keep you stabbing at your kindle. Another "kindle bruiser"...if Lizzy Ford keeps this up, I'm gonna need a new kindle and fast!

Book Blast: RED HOT DRAGON by Lolita Lopez with review & giveaway

While browsing bookstore shelves as a teenager, Lo discovered the erotic writings of Anaïs Nin and A.N. Roquelaure. Certain her mother would not approve, Lo smuggled the books home and squirreled them away in the most likely of places: under her bed. Late at night, she delved into the sensual worlds both writers created.

As a co-ed studying biochemistry and genetics at Texas A&M University, Lo dabbled in creating naughty tales to entertain her friends. Study for a midterm or pen a deliciously dirty story to delight her small band of fans? Not surprisingly, Lo is now on an extended sabbatical from college.

Luckily, Lo stumbled onto the world of erotic romance publishers. She realized there were other readers and writers who loved and craved breathtaking romance with the spiciest of love scenes. She took a chance and submitted her first novella. The rest is history.

Lo lives in Texas with her family and beloved Great Dane, Bosley.

A_TiffyFit's Review: Reeeeed Hot! Our team is RED HOT! Our team is R-E-D red H-O-T hot once we start we can't be stopped! Red Hot! WOO! Red Hot!

Did you guys do that cheer in middle school? That's how I felt reading RED HOT DRAGON. You just can't stop. It's too hot!

Avani Monroe and Griffin Cadogan are supposed to be enemies. Their families have been involved in a blood feud for CENTURIES. And yes, it can last centuries. They're dragons after all and live longer than mere mortals.

Avani is the last of her kind, a water serpent known as a Naga. Her species have been wiped out by the vicious Knights, hunting down and slaughtering dragons. Griffin is one of the Brotherhood, warriors whose duty it is to protect and help dragons survive. Avani approaches Griffin and asks the impossible. She wants a baby and he has just the right genetic line to help her as one of his distant ancestors was a water dragon.

This hot little novella is Griffin and Avani's story. I liked the first book, DEAD SEXY DRAGON with Griffin's best friend Stig and his mate, Cora, but this one was SO much better. I thought the characters were more detailed and developed and I liked how I felt I was just continuing in the story line. I'm envisioning a whole series of these and then getting an omnibus! *hopeful look towards the author*

Again, one of the things I liked is that there isn't an INSTANT declaration of love. Okay, it IS quick, but this is a novella! Griffin acknowledges that they've not known one another very long but there IS some kind of connection beyond their desire to have a baby and since he wants to be in the baby's life...and he has this pull towards her...they should give it a go! Avani is just thinking of how S.E.X.Y. Griffin is, but then she also thinks about his habits as they spend their heat (as in animal's mating time) together and how he demonstrates care and consideration. Add a life/death situation and there you go! Love the long term commitment plans, and amazed at how quickly I became attached to these characters.

So that was book 2...NEXT?! =D I'll be goodreads-stalking Ms Lopez's page to see any news on continuing this series. I love these erotic, hot, steamy romances!

Title: Firebolt
Author: Adrienne Woods
Series: The Dragonian Series
Publisher: GMTA Publishing Mythos Press
Release Date: Nov 20 2013

Back Cover Blurb:
Dragons. Right. Teenage girls don't believe in fairy tales, and sixteen-year-old Elena Watkins was no different.

Until the night a fairy tale killed her father.
Now Elena is in a new world, and a new school. The cutest guy around may be an evil dragon, a prince wants Elena's heart, and a long dead sorcerer may be waking up to kill her. Oh and the only way Elena's going to graduate is on the back of a dragon of her own.

Teenage girls don't believe in fairy tales. Now it's time for Elena to believe in...herself.

Promotional Blurb:
The Belly of a huge blue beast on four legs, the size of tree stumps, stood in front of the pickup.

Elena Watkins loved the fairy tales her father used to tell her.

Another dragon came out of nowhere. His scales appeared to be copper. He sank his jaws into the blue dragon.

Tales of heroes. Tales of magic.

The copper dragon bit fiercely into the blue dragon's neck. Blood pooled on thick puddles on the road.

Tales of dragons.

The copper dragon trudged toward the pickup. He hooked one of his talons into the windshield - and ripped it off.

But that was when she was little. Sixteen year old girls know the difference between fairy tales and real life. And everybody knows...

The dragon started to shrink.
there are no such things ...

The dragon's huge figure melted away into a copper blob. I shrieked...

as dragons.

as the blob transformed into the figure of a man crouching low to the ground.

Elena knew that too. Until that night. The night a dragon...

My father. And he was dying.

...killed her father.

Now there's a lot more that Elena has to learn. And not just about dragons. Because for Elena, not all the fairy tales are false - and not all the real world is real. And if Elena is going to get through what's coming, she's going to have to know a lot more that the difference. She's going to have to get to know someone she's never met. Someone she doesn't know if she can believe in.

Herself.

Synopsis:
For the love of blueberries, Elena Watkins was destined for greatness, even though she didn’t know it. Forced to travel from home to home every three months Elena’s life was a never ending blur of new towns and new faces, that is, until the night her father was killed by a creature she thought only existed in fairy tales – a dragon. With her father’s death leaving her orphaned, Elena is whisked away to her true birthplace, Paegeia.

Arriving at Dragonia Academy, the premier school for young Dragonians, she begins to feel a sense of belonging in this strange world; a school she was never meant to attend because her father was a dragon. Elena is soon swept up in the rigor of her new life and the new set of skills she now needs to survive: Latin, Art of War, and Enchantments.

Entranced by her new reality Elena learns about the dragons and humans who inhabit her new home. There are two classes of dragons that soar through Paegeia distinguished by their instinctual pretense for either good or darkness. The distinction between these two very different species is vital to Elena’s success in her new world because she has been marked as a Dragonian, a human preordained to ride and tame a dragon of her very own.

With the help of her new friends, Elena is able to navigate the complexities of her new home. Her new roommates Becky and Sammy are even more amazing then she could have ever imaged and to top it all off, Sammy was a dragon. Sammy’s is also the devoted sister of Blake, the most attractive boy at school and the Rubicon; the only dragon of his kind with the abilities of all the dragon species with a pretense for evil. Elena soon finds the love she always wanted with Lucian, the Prince of Tith, who actively pursues Elena throughout her time at Dragonia Academy, winning her heart with his absolute
adoration and unshaken dedication.

Unbeknownst to Elena danger is lurking behind the enchanted vines concealing the once thriving capital of Paegeia – Etan. Goran, the darkest sorcerer to ever practice his evil arts in the realm, has lain dormant for over a century behind the crumbling city. The first step in his menacing plan is to destroy the only weapon that can kill him – the King of Lion Sword.

When the sword is stolen Elena doesn’t think twice about seeking it; knowing deep down that it is her destiny to save her new home. She travels to the Sacred Cavern, and discovers the nefarious actions of an unknown man lead to the swords destruction as she follows the trail revealed in the prophetic waters of the cavern.

Elena and her friends engage the mysterious man revealing their existence to Goran and fighting for their very lives.

I was born and raised in South Africa, where I still live with my husband, and two beautiful little girls. I always knew that I was going to be a writer but it only started to happen about four years ago, now I can’t stop writing.

In my free time, If I get any because Moms don’t really have free time, I love to spend time with friends, if it’s a girls night out, or just a movie, I’m a very chilled person.

My writing career is starting with Firebolt, book one with the Dragonian Series, there will be four books in total and two to three books that is about the stories taking place inside The Dragonian Series.

I do write in different Genres, I have a woman’s fiction called the Pregnancy Diaries, but
it would be published under another name. And then I have a paranormal series, called the Watercress series. There are about ten novels in that one.

So, plenty of novels to come out, so little time.

I hope you are going to embrace the Dragonian Series as much as I loved writing them.

A_TiffyFit's Review: I had not heard of this series before this tour and was given a chance to review. I chose to review the first book in the series (because who would ever start at the end and work their way backwards, right? =P ). Also, I'm one to judge a book by its cover (as in, should I read this? Should I sign up for the tour? Should I buy it?) and this cover has "READ ME, TIFFANY" all over it! Luckily...it lives up to its cover!

This is a WONDERFUL start to a sword and sorcery fantasy series that winds its way into your subconscious and has you thinking about it when you have to step away for daily life, you know like making dinner, washing your hands, etc. :) I was smiling while thinking of the snark behind some of the characters, like Arturo!

I wasn't sure that I was going to like Kiora as she seemed so insecure about her being the Solus. She quickly wins me over with her great empathy, tender heart, honesty, loyalty, and desire to do no harm. Her self-doubt can start to get annoying at times, but she IS only 16 and she has the weight of the WORLD on her shoulders.
Prince Emane, I thought for sure he and Kiora would fight the ENTIRE book when we first met him in the beginning, but I was pleasantly surprised at how mature they both were rather quickly as they grasped what lies ahead of them. And then of course it develops into more.

There are magic-users, shape-shifters, pegasus, dragons, fairies (well, Guardians, I wouldn't want to upset them!), ancient evil, a magical book, and a journey that is amazing as both Emane and Kiora train and learn their abilities and prepare to take on the dark evil.  I found the premise that the kingdom and its people have no idea what evil is, no lying, no fear of thievery, abuse, murder, rape, etc. A wonderful utopia, no? Of course...until evil awakens again.

I liked the cast of characters, especially the dragon and the pegasus. I don't want to go into the plot more as I don't want to ruin it for you, but I am itching to get to book 2 and 3 as soon as I can! If you like fantasy of the sword and sorcery kind, that includes dragons and pegasus and magic, with a touch of sweet romance, pick this up!

Wings of Tavea

This land is full of new creatures, each more dangerous than the last. Her visions have taken on a deadly twist, and magic, or what comes of it, was never so real. A_TiffyFit's Review: Dead Sexy Dragon was a fast-paced, delightfully sexy novella. I liked how it wasn't instant-love as many novellas tend to do; these two have history and a repressed desire for one another. I liked the history of the Brotherhood and the dedication to family. And of course...mmmm hotsy totsy sexy scenes! Stig & Cora are a delightful match and this book will have you fanning your face with your kindle as the heat turns on!

Lo lives in Texas with her husband, daughter and big blubbering Great Dane with mommy issues. She also writes super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica with a New Adult flavor under the pen name Roxie Rivera
