{Book Review} Pillow Talk by Ruth J Hartman

Book Title: Pillow Talk
Author: Ruth J Hartman
Publisher: Turquoise Morning PRess
Publishing Date: September 4, 2014

Book Blurb
What happens when a tooth fairy falls in love with her dentist?
The dental community may never be the same.
***
Trixie Trident has a secret. Everyone knows she creates one-of-a-kind jewelry during the day. It’s what she does on her night job no one would ever guess. She’s a tooth fairy. Not the tooth fairy, just one of many. It would take her whole life just to combat the many misconceptions people have about TFs. Like how nobody wears tutus or uses a wand. Or stands three inches high. Nope, Trixie looks just like any other woman in her mid-twenties. And she’d tell people all of that stuff. If she was allowed to. But she’d sworn a sacred tooth fairy oath that she’d never tell a soul. And she hadn’t. Except for her best friend, who would never breathe a word to anyone.

Gray Keebler meets Trixie when she comes to his dental office as a new patient. He’s had lots of single women patients before, but not one has ever sparked his interest like Trixie. What is it about her that’s so unique? He can’t quite figure it out but he’s determined to try, even when she turns him down for a second date. Trixie is attracted to Gray like she’s never been to any man before. He’s what she always dreamed of in a man. And they even have the subject of teeth in common. But a relationship with the gorgeous dentist can never be. How could it when she’s a tooth fairy? Not only can’t she tell him, but he’d never believe her anyway.

Full Disclosure: I received an electronic copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. As follows:

I adored this book. I thought it was quirky, cute, sweet, and I loved how it was contemporary with a touch of fantasy. A tooth fairy falling for her dentist? A dentist falling for a tooth fairy? Seriously, such a cute concept and I loved how shy both of these characters were. The take-charge sister and mother were adorable and I loved how they got involved as soon as they heard the doctor mention her name. There is an evil, nasty woman in the shape of Korkie and really...I've met people like that. Rude, delusional, and just nasty. She doesn't really get her comeuppance, but instead it's a touch more realistic with what happens to her. This was just fine with me!

Ms Hartman knows how to write those romances that make you sigh with contentment, wistfulness, and happiness. And I love the cats that show up in her books as well!

{Book Review} WHAT DREAMS MAY COME by Beth Honeycutt

Book Title: What Dreams May Come (In Dreams #1)
Author: Beth Honeycutt
Publisher: indie
Publishing Date: May 28, 2014
Length: 249 pages
Source: author in exchange for an honest review

Reality is overrated. Or so Ellie Cross has always believed.

Ellie is an ordinary, nothing-special girl who feels invisible most of the time. She’s the kind of girl who would loan her lunch money to anyone, but she’s definitely not the kind of girl to get noticed. Well, except by her mom, who constantly nags her not to be such a dreamer, and the class bully who makes her life miserable. It’s kinda grim for a girl who’s already painfully shy and all-too-aware that she “takes work.”

But Ellie has a best friend, someone she can turn to whenever she has a problem. Well, some might call him an imaginary friend, since they’ve never actually met outside of dreams.

And, sure, Ellie knows it’s kinda weird to have a friend no one else can see, but since her real-world friends currently number one, she figures an imaginary friend can only improve her social life. Even better, since he isn’t real, she can tell dream-guy-Gabe anything, without ever worrying that he’ll ditch her for someone cooler or embarrass her by blabbing her secrets. And so what if she happens to have an itsy-bitsy crush on her reality-challenged friend? Who’s it hurting, really?

But things are about to get complicated, because there’s a new guy in school—a guy with hauntingly familiar eyes. A guy who knows things about Ellie that he shouldn’t have any way of knowing…

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Getting the book for free did not affect my review and no other compensation was offered or accepted.

Sweet. Clean. Teen. Romance. Those four words describe this book perfectly. Ellie has been dreaming of a guy named Gabe since she was a young child. While she has told her parents that the dreams have stopped, she still sees him when her emotions are high and they meet in dreams. His face is never clear to her even when she is staring at him full-on, but she remembers his eyes and all the emotions she has read in them...

When there is a new kid at school named Gabriel, Ellie is fascinated by him as he walks through the door of her classroom. She has this feeling she has met him before. When she makes eye contact, she is startled, but she kinda thinks she's going crazy...Dream Guy can't be real even if their names are similar, right?

As we follow Ellie and Gabriel's friendship, more and more information comes to light. I absolutely adore Ellie's BFF and how she has always believed in Ellie. And she also offers the possibility that this could scientifically happen in the world of probabilities. The story develops further and more information comes to light and you end with this sweet little sigh as it does. Destiny. Meant-to-be. Dream Guy. Dream Girl. Connections. Very, very lovely and romantic.

Blog Tour: My Own Mr Darcy by Karey White

My Own Tour

mr darcy
My Own Mr. Darcy

After being dragged to the 2005 movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life changes when Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy appears on the screen. Lizzie falls hard and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy. This ill-advised pledge threatens to ruin any chance of finding true love. During the six intervening years, she has refused to give any interested suitors a chance. They weren’t Mr. Darcy enough.

Coerced by her roommate, Elizabeth agrees to give the next interested guy ten dates before she dumps him. That guy is Chad, a kind and thoughtful science teacher and swim coach. While she’s dating Chad, her dream comes true in the form of a wealthy bookstore owner named Matt Dawson, who looks and acts like her Mr. Darcy. Of course she has to follow her dream. But as Elizabeth simultaneously dates a regular guy and the dazzling Mr. Dawson, she’s forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place.

A_TiffyFit's Review: I absolutely loved reading this book. It is sweet, silly, ridiculous, painful, and uplifting. Elizabeth Barrett's obsession with Matthew Macfadyen's Mr Darcy has ruled her dating life from the age of 16 to 23. She rejects one man after another as none hold a candle to her Mr Darcy. Fed up, Janessa, her best friend, coerces her into accepting 10 dates with the next guy she meets, trying to help her friend move on. Elizabeth reluctantly agrees and then, after a fabulously fun second date with Chad, Mr Darcy in the form of one Matthew Dawson walks into her bank, where she is a teller.

I love Jane Austen. I love her writing, her snark, her romance, her characters, everything! This book was wonderfully amusing as I'm seeing correlations between Karey White's characters and Jane Austen's characters. Elizabeth may believe she wants a Mr Darcy, but getting the modern version of exactly that is no fun. He's a stodgy, stuck-up, schmucky stick-in-the-mud who wouldn't know a good time if it bit him in the arse. Matt Dawson DOES soften a bit, but I had to laugh as our modern Lizzie is SO stuck on that movie that she's enamored of him for doing the schmucky things that Darcy/Dawson does! What?! No!

This was a lovely, clean romance that I could recommend to any Austen fan. It made me giggle and is definitely I can envision talking about over coffee with a bunch of friends. Lovely ending, lovely romance, I really enjoyed this read!

Blog Tour with Review & Giveway: In Shadows of Magic by Alison F Prince

The Bea-YOU-tiful Tour

On Tour with Prism Book Tours...

In Shadows of Magic

by Alison F Prince
Published July 11, 2013 by Astraea Press

Mandy McKinney lives the charmed life. She is beautiful, athletic, popular, dating the hottest jock in school, and certainly doesn't have any time for her loser twin sister. But Mandy also has a secret. When the truth is unveiled, her world is twisted upside down, and her very life is at stake.

Mandy's twin sister, Brianna, has never had any success in the dating department. When Brianna finally meets the guy of her dreams, it turns out that he has secrets of his own. Dangerous secrets. Just her luck.

The twins are about to be swept away into a world of beauty and power beyond their wildest imaginations where nothing is what is seems, danger is lurking in the shadows, and their only chance of survival is finding themselves, and each other, once again.

A_TiffyFit's Review:  Brianna and Mandy are identical twins. You wouldn't know it to look at them and it's not because Bri dyes her hair dark; Mandy uses her innate magic, something Bri is lacking, to glamour herself up every day. She uses it to make sure she's the best at everything. Really, in the beginning of this book, you are going to hate her. She's vapid, mean, and then has an inner monologue of whining that no one would love her without her magic. I actually started to keep a tally of the amount of times she said, "whatev."
And then...one of her supposed friends, one whose mom is a verbally vicious abuser, Valerie, changes everything for Mandy, with the somewhat unwitting help of her Mandy's twin, Brianna. I found Brianna a bit frustrating for constantly going along with Valerie. She said, "I do owe her." What? For what? What did she do for you? And what happened to the stronger, independent girl in the beginning? Thankfully this phase doesn't last long and then things get really interesting.
While Mandy is adjusting to be non-magical once again, Brianna is learning to simmer the amount she has down. Reconnecting with her friends, her music, and then she and Valerie are introduced to the supernatural at an exclusive party.
This book was a fun, quick read that sets the stage for future novels exploring more of Supertopia, vampires, shifters, etc. Oh, and that last line? Oooooooh.
