Book summary:
Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.
What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

A_TiffyFit's Review:
Imagine finding out one day that you are not human, but you are half-human and half-fairy! Wouldn't you be excited and joyful that you are part of this magical fantasy being? This is exactly what the protagonist, Allison, discovers about herself. Although it did explain many of the "differences" she'd felt all throughout her childhood, Allison quickly discovers it is not all that it's cracked up to be. Especially when being in love with one of them and having been left behind, would mean that you are no longer the person you once were, in fact, you are nothing more than a shell of a former self forever. And, you are left hopelessly yearning for the person you were in love with, like an addiction that will never go away.
Upon the discovery that this is exactly what is wrong with Allison's mom, Allison is determined to save her mother from this living hell. however, things aren't that simple. She learns from her, now a fairy, dad that she and her mother's lives are in the gravest danger from an evil, obsessed, jealous fairy princess. In order to save herself and her mom, Allison ventures into the fairy land guided by the fairy folk who do not feel malicious toward the humans as the evil princess and her cohorts do.
In the midst of this rescue adventure, Allison learns that contrary to her solemn belief, her father in fact has loved her mother for all these twenty plus years. In truth, her father's love for her mom is current. In this fairy world, the time passes differently; what is twenty years in the human world is only but a few months there. So both of her parents are still very much in love with one another, passionately, thoroughly in love. And since he's had NO idea about his daughter, Allison, he'd never abandoned her or her mother. In his "brief" time in the fairy-world, he's been doing his best to protect her mother from this evil fairy.
Allison's magical world's adventure is exciting and wondrous. One cannot help but to go along on this thrilling adventure on a fantastical magical ride. However, just as the tale begins its climatic peaks, it seemed we were let down rather abruptly on a downward slope. It left me unfilled and quite furious! lol I'm happy to know that this is part of a trilogy and eagerly await book 2. :)
