Making daggers out of raindrops is only the tip of the iceberg for Brooke Bonham. As one of four women who can control the elements, her ability to manipulate water packs a deluge of potential. Eager to learn more, she’s frustrated at the precautions she must take to avoid the wrong kind of attention on Earth.
Kai's duties as a Lash demon have kept him busy on Earth for nearly two hundred years. Fighting? He was born to do it. Females? They're drawn to him. And Earth? The perfect place for him to avoid supernatural bounty hunters.
Though the two of them mix like oil and water, Kai senses that beneath Brooke’s frosty exterior hides a vortex of simmering passion. He’s determined to thaw his ice princess.
Forced to work together in the immortal realm, they track a rogue Lash demon at the helm of a widespread kidnapping operation. All too soon, Kai’s dark past catches up to them. Time runs out as a second enemy, bent on revenge, vows to stop at nothing short of Brooke’s enslavement and Kai’s death. As they and their foes stalk each other in a demonic game of cat-and-mouse, will her evolving skills and their fledgling bond be enough to save them

I liked this second book even MORE than the first book. Not only is the story developing more and more and we get to meet other species from Torth, but I think it was that the romance in this one did not begin like Nicole & Gunnar's. As opposed to an instant attraction that Nicole & Gunnar succumbed to, we have sexual tension up the wazoo with Brooke & Kai, both drawn to one another, both fighting it, both sniping at each other instead. I love that!
There is a very interesting twist in this book that will make you say, oh wow! And what I liked about this twist is that our main characters don't yet know it, the other characters don't know it, only you, the reader, knows it. It's going to open a very nice can of worms and is going to be SO nice for our orphaned sisters and recently reunited lovers.
This book focuses on Brooke who has dominion over the element of water. She thinks it's a useless talent and has been feeling rather put out during her practice sessions as she's forced to work with thimblefuls of water as opposed to her sister, Nicole, who is whipping up winds left and right. What she didn't understand is that Rilan is teaching her control and how to find water, squeezing it from the proverbial (not so much anymore) rock!
Brooke and Kai have been rubbing one another the wrong way from their very first meeting in the kitchen of Demon Central (the sisters' nickname for the house in Evanston). The sexual tension is high and when Brooke is attacked by a Neshi demon on Earth, Kai and Brooke are sent to Torth to find a rare flower that can be used in defense against Neshis. The adventure begins when they are captured a few hours after arrival.
I loved watching Brooke and Kai's attraction for one another develop. And I enjoyed it even more as she learns more about her power and this handsome male Lash demon who is determined to protect her. The tension is palpable and Sharon Kay does a wonderful job weaving multiple stories and character backgrounds into a cohesive, fluid plot.
We've had wind, water, and next is Flame! I'm looking forward to reading about Gin. From the few times we see her or have her mentioned in these first two books, she is going to be the most stubborn of all! I want to meet Gin and I want to meet the fourth Solsti, who STILL hasn't been explained yet. And...don't you wonder what Rosa is doing with those locks of hair? From reading other novels, we know that something personal like that can have powerful implications. And they were freely given! Dun dun dunnnnn.

“No!” she yelled in her sleep. Not a dream, but a nightmare. He moved to the side of her bed and caught her hand as she flung it in a wild, uncoordinated motion.
“Shh, Brooke,” he said gently. At least, he hoped his voice was gentle. He could pleasure a woman until she forgot her own name, but comforting one was unfamiliar territory. He held her hand, watching the rapid pulse in her neck and her erratic breathing. “Shh,” he said again, tracing small circles on her wrist.
She let out a loud breath and tugged on his hand.
“It’s just a dream,” he said, patting her head awkwardly. As he leaned forward, she pulled hard on his hand again, tucking it next to hers against her stomach, and she rolled to her side.
Now what?
He didn’t want to loom over her bed all night, but he didn’t have the heart to remove his hand. So he did the only thing he could think of, and eased onto the bed next to her. He propped himself on one elbow, his other hand entwined with hers. She sighed and snuggled her sweetly rounded bottom against him.
He stifled a groan at the contact. Her curvy, sexy ass was the first part of her he had noticed. Not that he could help it, since she turned away from him at the exact moment he walked into the room. One time he overheard her complain to her sister that it was “too big.” That little comment gave him a monster hard-on, imagining what it would feel like to bend her over and drive into her from behind.
And now, with her soft body pressed near him, the weight of her breasts against his arm, her lilac scent wrapped around him like a drug. His cock throbbed with need, and he frowned down at her. Cuddling wasn’t what he had in mind when he imagined getting her into bed.
He studied the porcelain skin of her face, his acute night vision registering the fading flush on her cheeks. Her heart slowed and her breathing grew even, and she let out a contented, “Mmm.”
If her dream was over, maybe he could slip away soon. Ah, hell. Her sweet smell and soft curves beckoned to him. He didn’t want to leave her side. He rested his head on his arm and breathed in the fragrance of her hair, deciding to settle in for a while.
Sharon Kay writes award-winning fiction and can never get enough reading time. She loves paranormal romance, with romantic suspense following close on its heels. She loves winter and black coffee, and is endlessly inspired to write kick-ass heroines and the men strong enough to capture their hearts.
Sharon lives in the Chicago area with her husband and son, and didn’t expect to write one book, let alone a series. But WICKED WIND and the Solsti series formed in her head one weekend and refused to stay quiet until she put pen to paper. Her characters tend to keep her up at night, as they banter, fall in love, and slay endless varieties of power-hungry demons.
