A lie is a prison without bars.
A captive of the enemy, Candace is forced to confront mistakes and regrets from both sides of the battlefield, including her own. Nothing is simple, and lines in the sand that were once clear have become blurred and indistinguishable. Even the unlikely love she found teeters on the edge of uncertainty.
The truth is not always what it seems, and can be a prison of its own.
Alone, she must decide where she stands. Alone, she must decide who to trust.
When the smoke clears, what's left might not be much…
But it might be enough.

What an incredibly emotional, action-packed, ending to this series. This installment picks up where book 2, SAGE, left you dangling: Candace is kidnapped by the enemy, HEX. What she learns there unsettles her and she begins to question everything anyone has ever told her. Is she a double agent? Will she betray her ANGEL family? Will she switch sides to HEX?
I think what I like best about Candace is that she is willing and able to confront her own beliefs and ideals with what was thrown at her. In this book, after being kidnapped by HEX, she is presented with information that contradicts everything she's been told. She already was having doubts and noticed things that other ANGEL members did not; now armed with someone stating that it's A, B, and C, she takes her information from BOTH sides of the equation, analyzes what she knows, what she's observed, and in the end makes her own decision.
Candace grows in this series, not only with her powers, but her emotional maturity and reasoning ability. Despite my heart breaking in book one, it was so good to see that she is recovering and able to open up once more. I thought those sparks in the beginning (book one) were a sure sign, but then I was happily on her relationship bandwagon.
I loved this ending and loved how protective and strong Candace is. Her honesty, bravery, and steadfast loyalty to her friends and loved ones are a testament to her character and I wasn't surprised in the least by the support she garnered.
If you love superhero themed novels, complete with science fiction, evils and goods, romance, heartbreak, and lots of action, I highly recommend the Evolution series. It was a fun read, full of action, and so incredibly believable that it made me want to look up the ANGEL project in my phone book and volunteer.
If you've read it, what super power do you think you would develop? I think I would be an empath, but I would much rather have the power of water and healing!
