So when Hades offers her a deal, she accepts. If she wants to be brought back to life, she’ll have to figure out who is trying to kill his son. But if she fails, both her soul and the world will be destroyed.

To be only 27 and throwing yourself in front of a bus in order to save a child takes guts and a strong protective nature. Callie is just the girl for the job. A UPenn grad and dedicated homicide detective, Callie is intelligent, brave, and duty bound. What she doesn't expect is to be hovering between life and death and forced to serve Hades in the underworld on a mission to protect his son from an unknown foe...

I LOVED this book. Kindle-bruiser indeed, I could not put it down and was reading it every chance I got. (I was wishing I could read and get my exercise in at the same time, but I tend to run into trees or fall over when I read and exercise :)). I adore Greek mythology and love seeing authors add their own twist to well-known characters and tales. I was so glad that the author kept the selfishness and nasty attitudes of these self-centered gods, especially when it comes to the big names such as Zeus, Hades, Persephone, etc. I am a total animal over and I fell in love with the description of Cereberus; d'awwwww!

The world building was wonderful and the descriptions were evocative. I thought the pacing was done well, although there was a small plateau when we transitioned from the underworld to our world. I really enjoyed the story of Callie and her adventures trying to save and protect Plutus, especially with such odds stacked against her. While this was not a series, should Erin Hayes write more in this world with these characters, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. I thought it was fun, I liked Callie and Plutus, and the action rolled smoothly! Definitely re-readable!
