Because life so far – just sucks. Some girls get parents. Rook got the foster care system. Some girls get Prince Charming. Rook got an abusive frog. Some girls get lucky…

Rook’s luck changes in an instant and suddenly she’s the darling of the modeling world. It’s a dream job to go with a dream guy and all she has to do is look pretty and follow directions. But there’s always a price to pay – and Rook is about to get the bill.

Wait a minute…what reality show? Maybe she should’ve read that STURGIS contract a little closer? ;)

Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Synopsis:
Rook is chasing her dream—film school and a chance at a life beyond the one she ran from six months ago. But before she can become the girl she wants to be, she must deal with the girl she left behind.
Ronin is also chasing his dream—a family of his own and a life away from erotic modeling. And he too, has a past he’s trying to forget. A past that makes Rook question everything about their life together.
Lies, secrets, and shocking truths will rock the foundation Rook and Ronin have built. Can they put the past behind them and move forward together? Or is this just another too good to be true relationship that will crash and burn in the end?

Disclaimer: Received my copy from the tour host and author in exchange for an honest review. No compensation for my review.
This is the third and final installment in the Rook & Ronin series. The first is TRAGIC (you can read the blurb and my review HERE) and the second is MANIC (again, blurb and review HERE).
Holy. Crap. That's my first response to this book. At first, I thought it was just gonna be angsty crap with Rook learning how to be herself, Ronin always trying to push, maybe a showdown with Clare (I still hate her; if that manipulative bitch is her non-addict personality, I have no sympathy for her. You don't ever have to love your sister's boyfriend/husband's family. You just don't. Cordial, yes. That friendly no.). But this was much more intense!
First, yes I still hated Clare. The woman is back from rehab and the first thing she does is try to convince Ronin that Rook is going to run out on him. What. The. Eff. Not like they ever had a relationship anyway, as she rebuffed Ronin when he was interested. And suddenly, you're this needy, whiny B? Uh, no. And then I wanted to smack Ronin for being all goo-goo ga-ga over her. "Oh, I'm so glad you're home. Oh you look so good. Oh she doesn't mean to be a manipulative sh*the*d, she's just insecure! Let me hug her!" What?! NO. Ugh.
And then you have Ford. Ford who is confessing to Rook that he wants her, too. Rook who is learning that she would totally walk away with Ford, but that would be her past self not the woman she is hoping to be and that's why she's not. Ford who is respecting that, but just being upfront and honest with her. Spencer is in the background, working on his bikes, running his shop, having the reality show filmed at his place. This story focuses on Rook. And because it focuses on Rook, it focuses on Ford and Ronin.
So, what I thought was gonna be a nice final installment to this series, maybe dealing with a struggle between Rook and Clare over Ronin, was anything but something that simple. I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was! Holy crap intensity! I like to keep things spoiler free so here's the best I can do: you thought Rook's past was taken care of and over in MANIC? Bwahahahahahaha. You were wrong. I was wrong. Past comes back, threatens everything, team players, trust, fighting, on the brink of fleeing, on the edge of disaster... Whoa. For a novel that's on the "shorter" side, this packed one hell of a punch!
Tragic and Manic are both on sale for 99 cents at the time of this review. I suggest you get all three at once and then lock yourself in a room and enjoy all three, back to back, cover to cover.
Me, I'm eagerly awaiting Ford's story coming in 2014. I've always said that I'd choose Ford over Ronin any day and, while I understand why Rook chose the way she did, I'd personally would've chosen Ford. ;)

AUTHOR BIO
J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).
She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
