{Release Day Blitz} Reviews of BEG ME TO SLAY by Lisa Kessler and ASHES by Sarah Gilman...plus a FB party invite and giveaways!

Covets have all the sexiness, emotion, and happily ever after that readers have come to expect and love from Entangled. They are firmly grounded in the contemporary world, but each novel brings in supernatural twists, breaking the contemporary and paranormal rules, alike. To find out more about their titles, chat with authors, participate in special events, and to find out what books you’ll be coveting next, visit the Entangled website, follow them on Twitter, LIKE their Facebook page, and join the Book Club.

Today I'm happy to be featuring Covet's December releases:

Beg Me to Slay by Lisa Kessler
He’ll slay her demons, but it may cost her heart…

Four years ago Tegan Ashton was attacked. Determined never to be a victim again, she devotes her life to martial arts and self-defense. When her assailant returns to finish what he started, only one person can help her.

Gabe is a private investigator by day and demon slayer by night. After losing loved ones, he vows to defend people from a threat they don’t realize exists.

The relationship is supposed to be strictly business, but fighting demons together stirs up emotions they never expected. Turns out demon slaying is a breeze compared to facing their scarred pasts and even worse - hearts.

I love a female protagonist who can take care of herself and yet is still ultra-feminine, a little needy because of a past issue, but is willing to stand and fight, side by side with the man she grows to trust and love. This is what you have in Tegan Ashton. Four years after being attacked, she is shocked to find someone on the beach while she's watching her favorite webcam. It's her attacker and it looks like he's burying the body of a woman. Tegan goes to the police and they basically ignore her. So she decides to hire a private investigator. Enter Gabe. After hearing her story and seeing her scar, Gabe, a P.I. who happens to be a paranormal P.I. as well as a demon slayer, absolutely believes her and eventually tells her that he's a demon slayer. Together, these two build up some serious chemistry in the quest to hunt down the demon who attacked and marked Tegan.

What I loved about this romance is that it wasn't cut and dry either. It wasn't a "ME DEMON SLAYER. I SLAY DEMON. WE HAVE SEX. DONE!" kind of paranormal romance. We have a little family history in Tegan's father who knows his Welsh family history, is totally accepting of "dragons", and helps with translations of an old family bible/journal of sorts that ends up becoming very important for Gabe and Tegan to vanquish the demon.

Fast paced, great sexual tension, protagonists that ring true, this was a lovely way to spend an evening!

Ashes by Sarah Gilman
Journalist Ambrosia Pellerin accepts an assignment involving the legendary phoenix, expecting, if nothing else, a little entertainment. Instead, she winds up pregnant—by a surprisingly human-looking firebird, Reece Bennu.

As the Phoenix prince, Reece is next in line to the throne and expected to marry a purebred royal. A common human such as Ambrosia is not in the cards. He swears, though, he’ll never be an absentee father.

As Ambrosia’s due date grows closer, so do the soon-to-be parents. But will their tentative love survive the prejudice of Reece’s grandmother, who will stop at nothing to tear the two apart?

The only fault I could find with this book was that I wish it had been longer...it seemed to go way too fast! This is the first book I've read of a phoenix shifter and yeah, I'm gonna go there, it was hot!

Ambrosia Pellerin stumbles across what looks like a dilapidated cabin and a really hunky looking guy named Reece Bennu in the middle of the desert after having been accosted by a crazy man she was sent to interview. The crazy man swears he found a true phoenix, straight from mythology. After being taken care of by Reece, she's suddenly ushered out quickly and told to take his car when his building incinerates with him inside! Shocked, Ambrosia stumbles away.

Later, we find out she is pregnant by Reece. No, she didn't have sex with him. Phoenixes can only procreate during a rebirth...which she unwittingly witnessed.

I liked how Ambrosia was disbelieving when Reece comes to check on her to discover if she's pregnant or not. Who would believe someone claiming to be a phoenix right away? But I also liked how, despite being overwhelmed, she accepts it after being offered irrefutable proof.

I would've liked more on the betrayal of his family member, more of a confrontation, more of a firm conclusion there as I thought it was a bit soft, but I truly enjoyed their courtship, Reece's blundering honesty and bewilderment, and his little sister, Celeste. If this book turned into a series, I'd be gobbling them up!
