The oppression and hate of the south, the ugliness she once was able to avert her eyes from, now demands her attention.

Blog Tour: Angela Roquet's Reapers Inc Series!

 GRAVEYARD SHIFT

Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc., Book 1

Available exclusively at Amazon: Only $0.99 for Kindle | Paperback

The Inferno has Evolved… Lana Harvey is a reaper, and a lousy one at that. She resides in Limbo City, the modern capital of the collective afterlives, where she likes to stick it to the man (the legendary Grim Reaper himself) by harvesting the bare minimum of souls required of her. She’d much rather be hanging out with Gabriel, her favorite archangel, at Purgatory Lounge. But when a shocking promotion falls in her lap, Lana learns something that could unravel the very fabric of Eternity. If the job isn’t completed, there could be some real hell to pay.

POCKET FULL OF POSIES
Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc., Book 2

Available exclusively at Amazon: Kindle | Paperback

The promise of peace in Limbo City is threatened once again, but this time the terrorists have a more specific target in mind: Lana Harvey. The up and coming reaper thought passing her classes at the Reaper Academy was going to be her biggest challenge, but when a rebel demon sends her apartment up in flames, she realizes that her victories from the previous year haven’t gone so unnoticed after all… To make matters worse, the Afterlife Council has taken notice of Lana too. The Egyptian god Horus is blackmailing her into joining the Posy Unit so she can do an illegal side job for him, and Cindy Morningstar, Lucifer’s daughter, insists that she take a two week training course with the devilishly tempting Beelzebub, much to her angelic boyfriend’s chagrin.

FOR THE BIRDS

Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc., Book 3

Available exclusively at: Kindle | Print

Lana Harvey isn't just any reaper. She's the new captain of the Posy Unit, a specialty group dedicated to harvesting mass quantities of souls from natural disaster sites, battlefields, and the like. The new title didn't come without a price though. Lana made some promises along the way, and now it's time to follow through... even if that means putting herself in the path of the three Fates, a fickle and mighty force to be reckoned with. The Fates run a soul recycling plant in Limbo City, and if Lana isn't careful, they just might recycle her.

Review: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire, #1)A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book for review from the author here on goodreads! For an honest opinion, no "here's my book give me high ratings."

Solid 3.5 stars. I liked this book. I thought The Shade sanctuary was fairly unique and look forward to reading how Derek might change the way they do things. Derek, despite being a vampire and having been asleep for 400 years, seems the most "human" of the vampires we encounter. And let's face it: you have supernatural powers/strength, you're probably not going to be very nice to your food source. You're just going to demand, command, and/or eat. With such strength/power usually comes a healthy dose of abuse and you see that in Derek's brother, Lucas. He's a creepy bastard.

I'm not very enamored of instant love, but that seems hypocritical of me because isn't the fairy tale that nearly all women tease themselves with is "love at first sight"? So Derek's instant attraction and strong feelings for Sofia as she grabs his attention while comforting a fellow human slave is acceptable to me. But it bothers me at the same time - captured slave, Master falls in love with slave instantly, slave falls for master -- hiya Stockholm! Eh, I'm overthinking it. I liked it. I liked the Sun Room Sofia is moved to create. I liked the explanation of her empathy. I liked Corrine's suspicion and have to wonder about her staying there with the vampires; was she just waiting for Derek to awaken?

This book was a fast read and left me disappointed: cliffhanger! What is going to happen with Sofia and Derek? And Bitter Ben? Not that I blame Ben...he was at the hands of a sadist bitch. Do you root against the vampires? Do you cheer the vampires with Derek as their newly awakened leader? I know what I do. I look for Book 2 and slap it on my TBR and amazon.com wishlist for payday.

RBTL BOOK TOUR! Aphrodite's Secret Review & Giveaway

Title: Aphrodite’s Secret
Author: Samantha Ketteman
Series: The Forgotten (Book 1)
Genre: Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy
Publisher:  Self Published
Release Date: Feb 28 2013
Edition/Formats Available In:  E~book  & Print

Synopsis:
Kaira, still reeling from the loss of her younger sister in a tragic boating accident, lives in the dark world of exotic dancing for survival. When one man enters her life, her world is turned upside down and inside out, where reality and fantasy seem to intertwine.
Kaira feels the eyes of a striking man watching her every move on stage. Zane is a scarred man with many secrets, one of which is the knowledge of who and what Kaira really is and the danger she will face.
While Zane fights a subconscious battle about what to tell her and whether he cares enough to get involved, another has noticed her as well. An Ithacan, sent to destroy her for what she is and take her powers to the God that has commanded all Forgotten be exterminated. The God intends to absorb her powers and rule absolutely.
Before Kaira realizes what is coming for her, she finds herself tumbling into a world where a scarred man that she is inexplicably attracted to will become her only hope. A hideous creature, one such as she’s never seen, is hunting her and trying his best to destroy everything and everyone she knows to get what he wants for his Master, and only Zane knows why.

While Kaira thinks it coincidence that Zane shows up at the club the girls like to frequent after work, Zane uses the planned interception to explore the pull that he feels towards Kaira, when he has cared for no one but himself for so many years. After finally meeting, Zane notices that the Ithacan has also followed and as their eyes meet, they both know that the battle for her soul will come; who will win is less important as the insistence Zane feels to tell Kaira who and what she is before she ends up like her sister.

About the Author

Samantha Ketteman has resided in southern Illinois for 7 years, (though still claims to be an Alabama girl), with her husband and three crazy demon children. She started reading novels at a very young age and decided two years ago to write for herself. She is working on The Forgotten series, as well as two others. She is a caffiene addict, insomniac, and general basketcase most of the time. When she's not writing, she's thinking of writing, much to the chagrin of her husband who has to listen to her paranormal ramblings.

Blog Tour Excerpt!
As she sashayed her way to the center of the stage, exaggerating the swing of her
hips with each step, she glanced around the few rows that were in her line of vision. The
spotlight focused on her made it impossible to see further. It looked as if it was a full
house tonight, which was a good omen for her rent fund. She gave a small, slow sexy,
smile, and sauntered over to the giant gleaming pole standing like an old friend in the
center of the stage. As she swung around in a circle, back arched out from the pole to
better display her more prominent assets, she was mentally singing along to the song.
Kaira hated this song, but it seemed to go hand in hand with the costume she was wearing
for the night, and she had a whole routine devoted to this particular outfit and song.
Sadly, this was one of her more popular costumes and characters. She shimmied down
the pole, spreading her legs and bending over before sliding her backside back up the
pole in a move that would have made many women blush; or fall over; or both. She
turned to face the pole, jumped up, and then maneuvered herself so that she was then
sliding down the pole head first, gripping it with her legs. She slid all the way down to
the floor before releasing the pole, rolling over, and crawling her way along to the first
row of eager faces beaming up at her.

GUEST POST
*We got a glimpse of Zane's journal...the night he first sees Kaira*

I saw the most beautiful creature tonight. She commanded my attention, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her on the stage. I know that she will draw attention to herself, but she doesn’t know what she is, and it could get her killed. As entranced as I am, I don’t know if I want to be involved, yet I feel a pull to her, a sense of duty and a primal sense to protect her. I don’t want to care. I have lived my many years without the need to involve myself in anyone’s life. I failed once before, and it cost me my family. I know that I will repulse her, as I do with every child that points and hides behind his mother. It is inevitable that she will be hunted, as her aura calls out to all those that seek her. Do I get involved? Do I break my promise that I have kept for so long to stay away from others and simply live my life in solitude? I don’t know.

A_TiffyFit's Review
I received this book as part of this blog tour for an honest review. The story was more interesting and attention grabbing than I had thought at first. I thought I would have a hard time getting into a book where the protagonist is a stripper at a small town strip club, even though she’s apparently the daughter of Aphrodite. Never underestimate the powerful lure of greek mythology for me, a_tiffyfit! The story was actually quite interesting and attention-holding. You learn what a tough life Kaira has had – from orphaned to deciding to be a stripper to make good money (not exactly the best of jobs) to being stalked and raped and now here she is being stalked again! I liked her immediate draw to Zane and how she is able to see beyond the scar instead of being scared or repulsed like all the other women he’s encountered. (Really…humans suck. As a general rule, we are SO freaking shallow it’s disgusting!) I loved the pace of the novel, Kaira’s acceptance and strength as she overrides her initial reaction to reject all this information. My only beef with it is that poor editing kept kicking me out of Reader Zone (RZ). RZ is sacred and I do not like being kicked out of it. Not only were there homonym errors (your vs you’re, there/their/they’re), but at one point in the novel, Matilda is talking to Aphrodite and saying that He is her “something for soul mate”. Obviously this must’ve been an author note to find a new word for soul mate/other half so that she is not reusing this phrase too often, but then it was three pages of this “something” as opposed to a real term. As a reader, it made me recoil from the page making the pinched-sucked-on-a-lemon-Renee-Zellwegger face. But I was enjoying the romance and action of the plot so I smoothed it over and continued on! This is book one of the series, and from this novel, I get the hint that Jasmine may be the lead in the next novel. I liked Jasmine – staunch friend, fierce supporter, and she tells it like it is!

I liked the romance: sweet, simple, and that paranormal bond is awesome. I will look forward to reading more, hopefully. I’d like to see glimpses of Zane reconnecting with his family, Kaira getting to know all of her powers and her mother, and see who else is a Forgotten daughter. Are there forgotten sons?!

EXCERPT

“Lord Istar of Avristar has called a match between our finest warrior and his. I present to you Wraynas, winner of the Beltane Tournament!” The crowd went wild for Wraynas. Istar nodded to himself as he mentally sized up Krishani’s opponent. This would be a good match.

Falnir didn’t waste time. He called the match seconds later and limped away from hearth, keeping his eyes on the boys as they circled each other.

Wraynas was the first to land a blow to Krishani with the wooden sword. It tapped his shoulder and Krishani briefly fell to one knee. He scraped the ground and rubbed his fingers together, then was back on his feet, twisting around and avoiding the very forward advances that Wraynas made towards him. Eventually, Krishani’s wooden sword met with Wraynas’s and they moved across the dirt in a pattern of blows, each of them defending themselves with skill. Their sparring didn’t get interesting until Wraynas shoved Krishani with his free hand and Krishani fell onto his back. Wraynas was on him in an instant, ready to end the match, but Krishani sprang to his feet, his expression colder, harder.

Istar was curious as to what he was doing. He wasn’t striking Wraynas back; he was only defending himself and not letting go. He seemed focused, but he wasn’t doing what Istar wanted him to do. He turned his eyes away from the sparring match for only a second and that was all it took.

Krishani didn’t even touch Wraynas, but there was a loud crack followed by a rumbling under their feet. The sky darkened with clouds and Wraynas flew onto his back and coughed, blood pouring from his mouth and staining his vest and breeches. Krishani knelt in a ceremonial position, the tip of his wooden sword pointed to the ground. It smoked at the hilt. Krishani panted as the crowd screamed in horror. Istar rushed to his apprentice. He needed to reach Krishani before the villagers realized what happened and attacked his pupil. He briefly glanced at Wraynas, who was passed out unconscious at the edge of the crowd. There was a group of younger maidens fawning all over him, not knowing what to do. Istar placed a hand on Krishani’s shoulder and the boy looked at him, his cheeks stained with tears.

“What was that?” Istar spat.

Krishani’s expression turned from sad to cold again. He shrugged off Istar’s hand and stood, throwing the sword on the ground like it was a deadly weapon. “I hurt him, didn’t I?”

“You . . .” Istar’s gaze moved towards the crowd around Wraynas. Falnir had managed to reach him now and was parting the girls and kneeling at his side. “But why would you?”

Krishani looked down at his hands. They were red, but he wasn’t harmed in any way. “I didn’t mean to. I just let go.”

Istar had never actually witnessed what happened when Krishani let go, and he felt punched in the stomach at having to see it there, in a group of villagers. He took Krishani by the elbow and began leading him towards the thin path back to the Elmare Castle. The clouds were darkening overhead and large droplets of water were beginning to splash onto the dirt.

Before Istar could pull Krishani through the crowd, Falnir glanced up and caught them fleeing. “Your boy is dangerous!” he shouted, clearly upset.

Istar glared at Krishani. “I’ll send Hernadette to help Wraynas.” He tried to be diplomatic, but he knew it was no use. Krishani had harmed their champion, and what was supposed to be a fun sparring match had almost turned into bloodshed.

Falnir nodded. “It is no fault of yours, my lord.”

Istar only nodded, then pushed Krishani through the crowd and into the forests. He didn’t say a word as he led the boy back to the Elmare castle, but he was afraid—afraid of what Krishani was and what he could do.

AUTHOR BIO
Nearly every writer struggles to put together information about themselves, perhaps because we’re so used to detailing the lives and ways of others. For the most part I am a writer, editor, photographer, and all-around artist living in the wilds north of Toronto, Ontario. I thrive on the juxtaposition of beauty and grit, enjoy urban crawls, indie everything, and time well-spent in the woods.
